For a DHI Accredited Product Presentation “Understanding Special Purpose Doors
and Windows” – Course #04-1018
This presentation consists of a comprehensive overview of specialty doors, frames and windows – including acoustical/STC, blast, explosion and pressure resistant, bullet, ballistic and fragmentation/projectile resistant, radio frequency and electro magnetic interference shielded, stainless steel and thermal barrier types. The program investigates factors to consider when designing, specifying, taking off, estimating, bidding, etc. these special application products. It aims to educate, thereby helping ensure appropriate decision-making on applications. Everything from the final cost, installation, maintenance and the satisfactory performance of these unique products largely depend on the initial input by the design and specifying decision makers coupled with distribution channel / value added re-seller active, conscience involvement. The more information available, the easier and more accurate the decisions, scope of work and end-user satisfaction will be.
A 60 to 90 minute presentation typically includes:
- Basic concepts, terms and codes, e.g., STC ratings, bullet resistant levels, blast, etc.
- Levels of performance that can be had on various types of doors, frames and windows
- Characteristics of specialty doors and frames – steel, wood and veneer-covered steel
- Standard hardware, hardware options, considerations, products materials and finishes
- Fire-rated, positive pressure and other test requirements and compliance
- Multi-function applications, e.g., STC rated, blast resistant, fire-rated doors & frames
- The importance and influence of adjacent and surrounding construction and materials
- Sources of support e.g., technical, installation, inspection, maintenance, etc.
- What questions to ask the client and what they should know before answering
The program is conducted in accordance with guidelines set forth by the Door and Hardware Institute. Credit for attending is issued according to their requirements. Ken Kuzman, East Regional Sales Manager and/or Bob McCluney, President, both of Krieger Specialty Products, conducts the meeting. If you choose, the presentation’s direction can emphasize certain types of applications, acoustical doors and frames, for example. Lastly, questions are always encouraged since we learn from them, too allowing presentation customization to your/the group’s needs.
